The adjective “community” here signifies classical shows that somehow emphasize localness or regionalness in their programming, or that attach themselves to a broadcast operation that emphasizes localness or regionalness. I will be including shows that broadcast other genres besides classical on this page, as long as some classical content appears on the program.<\/p>\n
I’m doing this because I love classical music and classical radio (obviously), but also because I think that classical radio has become marginalized, especially in the United States. Some of this marginalization in the USA stems from the Clear Channel\/Cumulus mergers that followed the Telecommunications Act of 1996. Much of it, however, is self-inflicted. As the list develops, I hope to encourage intercommunication among programmers about audience building via our forum, a special twitter list, and other social networking tools.<\/p>\n
